Jacqueline Floriot is driven from her home by her husband Louis, a deputy attorney of Paris, because of his unjust suspicions regarding her relations with another man. Floriot forbids Jacqueline to see her baby boy, who is dangerously ill, and when informed that the boy believes her dead, she attempts suicide.
In the Latin Quarter of Paris, Mimi earns the nickname "The Mad Dancer" and poses in the nude for a sculptor named Serge Verlaine. After her father commits suicide, Mimi travels to the United States to live with her American relatives. Her new family heavily disapproves of her past and insults her for having posed for Verlaine. Unwilling to tolerate the abuse, she walks out and moves to Washington, D.C. In D.C., Mimi secures a new life and becomes engaged to Keith Arundel, the son of a United States Senator. Her hard-earned respectability is jeopardized when her bohemian past threatens to catch up with her and expose the details of her life in Paris.

In this adventure, an American is forced by smugglers to sail his boat from Barcelona to Tangiers. The ruthless fugitives then kill his son, and harm his shipmate, sending the pilot, himself an ex-smuggler into such a rage that he kills two gang members and helps police capture the survivors and bring them to justice.

When a taxi carrying socialite Ruth Darrow drives into the middle of a gun battle between hijacker Kid Gloves and a trio of bootleggers, Ruth is injured. She is taken to a nearby apartment, and The Kid helps to care for her. John Stone, Ruth's fiance and a bootlegger with a respectable front, finds them together and blackmails The Kid into marrying the girl.
