Selma Lagerlöf's life and work never ceases to fascinate and to be relevant. Selma Lagerlöf broke with the old role of women that she was expected to accept. Against her father's wishes, she applied for, and was admitted to, a teacher training college in Stockholm. She would now be on her own.
