Overview
Illale Devatha (transl. Wife is a Goddess) is a 1985 Telugu-language drama film, produced by N. R. Anuradha Devi under the Lakshmi Films Combines banner and directed by Tatineni Prasad. It stars Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Raadhika, Bhanupriya and music composed by Chakravarthy. The film is a remake of Singeetam Srinivasa Rao's debut Kannada film Haalu Jenu (1982).

John owns the largest chain of five and ten cent stores in the country. He moves his family to New York from Kansas City and their life, though grand, is falling apart due to his constant working. Wife and mother Jenny is lonely. Son Avery hates his job. Daughter Jennifer is snubbed by classmate Muriel and her friends. At a charity bazaar, Jennifer meets Berry and sparks are evident. However, he is engaged to Muriel and Muriel will make sure that she, and only she, marries Berry. After the marriage, Berry still thinks of Jennifer as Jennifer thinks of Berry. Avery laments about the state of his family since they were happy in Kansas City.

After many years of separation, landscaper and part time dealer of illegal fireworks – Anders – is contacted by his father Thomas who is about to lose the family farm. To help his father, Anders returns home and starts a larger production of illegal fireworks and begins shipping it through the family's freight company. Through the traffic of fireworks, the family finds a way towards reconciliation and forgiveness for the first time since the family tragedy twenty years ago which Anders feels responsible for.

Half a Confession introduces itself as a thriller and abruptly changes gears, transforming into a tale of morality with deeper insights into its characters than we had anticipated. It begins when Soichiro Kaji (Terao), a retired detective, walks into police headquarters and confesses to the murder of his wife. We learn that the victim had prematurely developed Alzheimer's after the tragic death of their son, and in her suffering, had asked to die. The police chiefs would be far more content to take him at his word if it were not for a conspicuous hole in his story: 48-hour gap between the alleged murder and his confession. Fearing a public relations nightmare, they are eager to bury the incident and keep the press in the dark.

Singel mother, Elin, experiences her worst nightmare when her son dies in a drowning accident. She tries to get her life back on track after the tragedy together with her daughter Storm (10), but there are rumours around school that somebody saw Storm push her brother in the river on purpose.
