Overview

The wife of Nasim, an Afghan immigrant in Iran, is gravely ill. He needs money to pay for her care, but his day labor digging wells does not pay enough. A friend connects Nasim to a two-bit promoter who sells tickets to watch Nasim ride a bicycle continuously for a week. The promoter brings in sick and aged spectators, haranguing them to find hope in Nasim's strength. Aided by his son, who feeds him as he rides, Nasim grinds out the days and shivering nights. Local officials believe this may be a plot and Nasim may be a spy; they try to sabotage him as do those who bet he won't finish the week. Will desperation alone get Nasim the money? Is any triumph an illusion?

A 45 your old African living in Australia from Burundi does not have an easy life. He does not speak English well, he has issues even doing his simple job as a cleaner as he does not understand what the boss Mathew wants from him at certain times. He rather puts all his hopes into the future of his two children, his teenage son Dieudonne and his little daughter Aline as he wants them to study hard to embrace Australian culture, but never forget their African roots and make a successful life. Dieudonne does not care about his father's desire, he's a known troublemaker at school. He misleads his father by telling him that he is doing remarkably well in his studies.

A young Israeli arrives in New York City but the person with whom he was meant to stay goes AWOL. The Israeli befriends a young, American singer and returns her wallet which she had stolen from her on the subway, they hang out and get to know each other in the course of 24 hours. New York City serves as the setting and backdrop to their flash in the pan romance. This was Aner Preminger’s thesis film shot during his film studies at NYU before graduating.
