Cecilia arrives in Guadalajara for the first time to study at the Faculty of Literature and become a writer. There she meets Nicolás and Aristeo, young men who claim to be the founders—though in reality the only members—of the Underground Ultraism, a literary movement that aims to change Mexican literature. Through them, she meets Pita, an irreverent and openly bisexual poet with whom she forms a genuine bond. Cecilia finds a new sense of belonging in this group, until the friendship holding it together begins to fracture under the weight of envy.

During World War I, a novelist declared dead is recruited by British intelligence and sent to Switzerland under a new identity to assassinate a German spy. Teamed with a fellow agent posing as his wife and an eccentric assassin known as “the General,” the trio close in on their target — until two of them grow ambivalent when their duty to the mission clashes with their consciences.

Samantha Caine is a small-town schoolteacher and mom with no memory of her life before washing up on a beach eight years ago. Teaming up with a wisecracking private investigator, Samantha must return to her old ways to take down the people who tried to erase her.

On 31 January 1968, 31 North Korean commandos infiltrated South Korea in a failed mission to assassinate President Park Chung-hee. In revenge, the South Korean military assembled a team of 31 criminals on the island of Silmido to kill Kim Il-sung for a suicide mission to redeem their honor, but was cancelled, leaving them frustrated. It is loosely based on a military uprising in the 1970s.

One of the US Air Force's most modern tactical aircrafts, an F-100 with a new laser guidance system, crashes into the sea near Malta - a region where the Soviet forces are highly present, too. The CIA immediately sends out their best secret agent, Ken Tani, to salvage the system before it falls into enemy hands. To ensure his loyalty, they bring his two young sons to a nearby hotel on the island.

Martin, an ex-Parisian well-heeled hipster passionate about Gustave Flaubert who settled into a Norman village as a baker, sees an English couple moving into a small farm nearby. Not only are the names of the new arrivals Gemma and Charles Bovery, but their behavior also seems to be inspired by Flaubert's heroes.
