Marie-Jo is a middleaged woman living an ordinary life in Marseilles with her husband, Daniel and her daughter, Julie. Daniel runs a small construction business in which Marie-Jo helps. She also works at the local hospital. Outwardly their marriage is loving. While in Spain Alan Randolph falls for famed singer Rosita Mendez, but when he goes back to Louisiana, he returns to his fiancée Violet Beaton. On an American tour Rosita discovers Alan has married Violet. Consumed with jealousy she threatens to kill him with a revolver and in the scuffle is wounded. Full of vengeance Rosita has him jailed for five years. Suddenly contrite she then outlines a plan of escape to Alan, but he refuses until destiny takes a hand.

Pascale leads a lonely life with her adult sons François and Thierry at a rural estate subsidized by her ex-husband's alimony payments. When Pascale falls for neighbor Jan, she makes plans to move in with him. But Pascale's twin sons -- loafers who treat her like a servant and refuse to accept the responsibilities of adulthood -- won't let her go. The family remains locked in a stalemate until someone makes a startling move.

An egotistical television personality enlists the assistance of his best friend in putting the fidelity of his fiancé to the test in this amiable comedy of the sexes. Told in flashback, the film takes a familiar love-triangle scenario and gives it a bitter twist. With a bride who seems too good for either suitor, the film is sustained by one question - who will she choose?
