Overview
Disgusted with his spendthrift son, Kirk Anthony's father has Kirk shanghaied and taken to Panama, where he attracts the attention of Mrs. Edith Cortlandt. He subsequently falls in love with Chiquita, the daughter of a Panamanian general, gets a railroad job through Stephen Cortlandt and decides to make something of himself when he meets Allen Allan, a black mercenary. Stephen Cortlandt's death is blamed on Kirk until Edith produces a suicide note. He succeeds in his railroad position and returns to the United States with Chiquita to ask his father's forgiveness. A lost film.

Struggling young painter Ruth Elliott has written her Eastern friend Mildred Colburn that she has gained fame in the West as an artist. When Mildred stops to visit on her way to Honolulu, Ruth hires Peter Neyland to pose as her chauffeur for five hours. Peter is actually a wealthy young man who accepts the offer as a lark.

Muggsy Mulane, a waif who wears boy's clothing, jumps a freight train to the country after Jimmy "the Eel," the leader of the gang of crooks with whom she works, is arrested. In the village of Cottonville, Muggsy befriends Aunt Sarah, whom she later discovers is Jimmy's mother. When Muggsy learns that the greedy Judge Cotton, who holds the mortgage on Aunt Sarah's property, is planning to foreclose, she threatens to blackmail him, and he relents.

Eerie things are happening at Chelford Castle at night: Since the murder of Abbot Hubert some 400 years ago, his ghost is said to haunt the abbey on dark nights. Devilish howls can be heard as he wanders through clouds of fog. Sergeant Putler, Scotland Yard's most intrepid and successful detective, is hired by Richard Chelford to investigate the case. His older brother, Lord Henry, is much more interested in the legendary treasure of gold that is said to have been hidden somewhere on the grounds since Hubert's death. The situation escalates when Henry's secretary, Mary Brown, disappears without a trace one night, and a man in a monk's habit with a knife appears in Richard Chelford's bedroom, intent on killing him. Meanwhile, Sergeant Putler chases the mysterious monk's terrifying screams through the foggy and eerie night...
