Set in Baku at the turn of the 20th century, a young successful businessman Asgar wishes to marry. He wants his bride to be the choice of his heart, however, Azerbaijani tradition restricted him from communicating with the lady as a lover before marriage. So Asgar decides to disguise himself as a mere cloth peddler and the young woman Gulchohra falls in love with him.

Popularly known by the name of the main character, "Mashadi Ibad" was based on a musical comedy by composer Uzeyir Hajibeyov and written in the early 1900s. The story is based on the age old-theme of a beautiful young woman Gulnaz who falls in love with a young man Sarvar but is obliged to marry someone else.

A young craftsman Shamil lives in a small town. Everyone respects him for his good hat-making skills and his kind and cheerful disposition. He falls in love with the daughter of a wealthy merchant, Kamyab, and she loves him back. But the father doesn’t want his daughter to marry a poor man. Shamil’s friends help him kidnap the girl. However, the friends betray Shamil for the sake of money and the operation fails.

On the seashore, the mother and father decided to build a country house where their three sons, daughter, daughters-in-law and grandchildren could gather together. But neither the sons nor the daughter can find time to visit and help their parents. Only the eldest son understands his father and mother...

The protagonist, Murad, has a family and a good job, but on a whim, he suddenly feels compelled to abandon everything. Deep down, he is torn between feelings of love and indifference.
