Radha (Pooja Bhatt) and Manohar (Vivek Mushran) love each other and want to get married, but Radha's dad (Ashok Saraf) does not approve of their marriage as Manohar comes from a poor family. He instructs Radha not to leave the house, but Radha finds a way to escape and goes to Manohar's house. Anticipating more obstacles, they run away, guided by Radha's uncle Natwarlal(Prem Chopra). Natwarlal convinces them that they must kidnap a wealthy person and demand a big ransom and take the money to appease Radha's dad. It is then they start to realize that their uncle has some other devious plans for them.

Thakur Gangadhar Choudhary rules a small community in rural India with an iron hand, and will never permit anyone to speak up against him. He owns most of the land surrounding his palatial home - save for the small patch of land owned by Veer Singh. He summons Veer to his house, and offers him substantial compensation for his land, but Veer refuses, and the Thakur has him killed. Veer's widow dies of shock, leaving behind a young Suraj to be brought up by a kindly widow Mrs. Salma Khan, who is also the mother of Iqbal. Years go by, Suraj grows up joins the Indian Armed Forces, and after a meritorious career, he resigns and returns home to avenge his father's death. What he does not know that he must first come to terms with the local Police Inspector Iqbal Khan, and then the wealthy Collector of the District, Rajpal Chauhan, before he can even think of touching a single hair of Gangadhar Choudhary.

Our story has three married couples: One couple, who are happily married, are Tripathi (Sanjeev Kumar) and his wife Mary; the second couple are Geeta (Shabana Azmi) and Vinod (Vinod Mehra), who live in Vinod's mom's house. Their's is an unhappy marriage with Vinod spending a lot of time with Leena (Prema Narayan), and frequenting late and all-night parties. His wife patiently awaits his return every night; And the third couple is that of Shobha (Moushumi Chatterjee) and Vicky Kapoor (Jeetendra), their's is a seemingly "happy" marriage, with Shobha being a very jealous and possessive woman.

Alisha Khanna, 30, ambitious, now finds herself at crossroads in life. Her six year long relationship has grown monotonous, her career seems to be going nowhere. But just when she had begun to accept this reality as unchangeable, her life is usurped by the arrival of her cousin, Tia and her fiancé, Zain, with whom she bonds over a troubled past and a common wish to break from its confines.
Dr. Satish travels from the big city to a small village, where he can serve the poor who cannot afford to go to the city for medical treatment. Once in the village, he meets with Shanti, who lives with her dad, Radhekiran, a watchman. Both Shanti and Satish fall in love, and exchange vows to be married. Radhekiran has an accident, and dies, leaving Shanti to re-locate, without notifying Satish. Satish is devastated at losing Shanti, and tries to locate her, to no avail. His parents want him to marry Kamini, and he agrees to do so. It is then he comes across Shanti, and he is shocked to see that Shanti has given birth to baby-boy, but will not disclose who the father is.

Shankar and his wife, Kamla, live in a small bungalow in Madras, India, with his only daughter, Kokila, and a maidservant, Manga. Since he is an engineer with his firm, he has to travel frequently. Kamla's suffers a mild stroke and has been medically advised to take it easy. Shankar is now worried about his family just in case something happens, when he is out of town...

After wrapping up the shoot of his upcoming period film, in which he also plays the lead character Mehboob, Indie film director-writer RK (Rajat Kapoor) struggles to piece his film together on the editing table. Trouble escalates when he discovers that his lead character has vanished from the film’s footage and entered real life.
