Overview
Peter is a pensioner who works for a bank - a department store, more precisely - and his job is to collect debts from the citizens. While conducting his work, he finds the young man Miki to be his reliable assistant, and he inadvertently connects him with the girl named Maja.

Heinrich Lohse, a strict and highly efficient purchasing manager at a company bulk-orders 40 tons of mustard and enough typewriting paper for 40 years just to get discount. Heinrich's boss decides it’s time for him to retire early. Heinrich suddenly finds himself with nothing to do—except micromanage his household, much to the dismay of his wife Renate and their son Dieter

The whole clique of Cruchot's police station is retired. Now he lives with his rich wife in her castle - and is bored almost to death. He fights with the butler, because he isn't even allowed to do the simple works. But when one of the clique suffers from amnesia after an accident, all of the others reunite and kidnap him, to take him on a tour to their old working places and through their memories. In their old uniforms they turn St. Tropez upside down.

Retired tax official Willi Winzig spends his retirement happily and contentedly in his home. However, this changes when his sister Heidelinde, her daughter and his father want to move in with him, and as Willi is a good-natured man, he takes them in, but because they have no money and his pension is not enough for all four of them, he has to take on a new job. He gets a job as a salesman for household appliances, but his good nature gets in the way again.

Alarmed by the news that for each working Italian there's a retiree, 70-year-old Walter decides to do his part by helping "a young person who's working for him." He chooses Piero, a model worker and upstanding citizen so shy that he can't bring himself to declare his feelings for night-time street cleaner Francesca. Walter starts giving him some old-hand advice on the matter.

A sobering mid-life crisis fuels dissatisfaction in Philip Dimitrius, to the extent where the successful architect trades his marriage and career in for a spiritual exile on a remote Greek island where he hopes to conjure meaning into his life - trying the patience of his new girlfriend and angst-ridden teenage daughter.
