The film records a tradition by which migrant farm workers in the communities surrounding Lake Okeechobee have been hunting and preparing rabbits since the early 1900s.
The Life of the Rabbit is a short but charming informational piece on the habits, traits and lifecycle of the humble rabbit. The film follows both 'real' and animated creatures, depicting a range of activities from daily grooming to the traversing of tunnels and dens, sometimes at exceptionally high speed, whilst being pursued by a rogue pole cat with a desire for a rabbit dinner.

When one spends a lot of time with wild animals it is hard not to find inspiration in the dignity and stoicism they display in the face of severe injury or death. This rabbit had a one-eyed sibling that is was very close to - they and their family are shown in happier times toward the end of this video. The events shown in this video happened over approximately two hours. These rabbits are relatively rare Appalachian Cottontails and live at near 4000 feet elevation in the Great Smokey Mountains of North Carolina." - Mr. C

Using only humane methods, which turns their home into a halfway house for evicted vermin, the pair stumble upon a mystery involving a voracious vegetarian monster that threatens to ruin the annual veggie-growing contest.
