Overview
In the small working community, the entry in the local newspaper hits like a bomb. The signature "Leif" claims that the town's large arms company Rotum exports weapons illegally. Gunnar Volt, CEO of Rotum, gets a shock. Imagine that someone has the audacity to say that about the community's pride Rotum - even if it now happens to be true. He immediately gathers the management and everyone agrees: Leif must be found - and stopped. But who is this mysterious Leif?

For some time now, the residents of the placid little village of Sonnenthal talk only about one topic: Football! The ambitious mayor wants to promote the Sonnenthal team to the district league at any price because this success would also boost his own popularity. But he did not expect the resistance of the new head of school, Barbara, who is heavily annoyed by the one-sided focus. To bring Sonnenthal′s men and the mayor in particular to their senses, Barbara sets up a women′s football team that soon turns out to be a serious competition for the men′s team.

During World War II, all the studios put out "all-star" vehicles which featured virtually every star on the lot--often playing themselves--in musical numbers and comedy skits, and were meant as morale-boosters to both the troops overseas and the civilians at home. This was Universal Pictures' effort. It features everyone from Donald O'Connor to the Andrews Sisters to Orson Welles to W.C. Fields to George Raft to Marlene Dietrich, and dozens of other Universal players.

After returning home from the war, Vietnam veteran Julius Vrooder resides in a veteran's hospital, where he has been vaguely diagnosed as "psychiatrically impaired." Taking the news with an air of initially lighthearted defiance, Vrooder escapes and sets up camp under a highway, where he builds a paranoia-driven booby-trapped bunker for himself. Falling in love with not-so-bright nurse Zanni, Vrooder soon plans to elope with her to a remote Canadian outpost.

A corrupt mayoress fakes a miracle to save her bankrupt town, and the romance between a rational nurse and an easygoing doctor caught in the chaos. A live concert held at Carnegie Hall in New York City as a benefit for the Gay Men's Health Crisis, with Angela Lansbury, who had starred in the original Broadway cast in her stage debut, as the narrator.
