A fateful night in 1959, four people die when the bus they are riding crashes. They continue as ghosts; their souls become eternally entwined to the life of a child born at the moment of their deaths as his guardians. Baby Thomas grows up to be a businessman who has memories of his playmates, but assumes they are products of his youthful imagination. When the ghosts realize they need Thomas' help to move on to the afterlife, they decide to make an appearance once more.

The eponymous wraith returns to Earth to aid his descendant, elderly Emily Stowecroft. The villains want to kick Emily and her friends out of their group home so that they can build a crooked casino. Good guy Steve Walker gets caught in the middle of the squabble after evoking Blackbeard's ghost.

There is a legend associated with the Macocha Abyss, which is apparently based on a true event. In the village of Vilémovice, a farmer's wife suddenly dies. He soon realizes that he cannot manage everything alone, including taking care of his son Janíček, who now lacks a mother, so he decides to marry a new woman. At first, the new wife appears caring, but soon jealousy and hatred toward her stepson take hold. One fateful day, she attempts to cast Janíček into the abyss — will he survive this fall?
