Overview

This dramatic story concerns the fateful night of March 14-15, 1939, when President Dr. Emil Hácha was forced to sign a document legalizing the establishment of the so-called Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. Screenwriter J. S. Kupka conceived this historical event as a human drama about a man who is faced with the decision of whether to comply with Nazi dictates or risk bloodshed.

After the “September 18 Incident” in 1931, Japanese forces occupied Northeast China. University student Bai Yihua was ordered to return to his hometown, Liaoyang, posing as a teacher to secretly organize anti-Japanese resistance. However, constant threats put his mission and identity at risk. As enemy and ally clashes intensify and his cover nears exposure, can Bai Yihua uncover the traitor, break through the siege, and turn the tide of the resistance?

The film is about an unemployed banker, Henri Verdoux, and his sociopathic methods of attaining income. While being both loyal and competent in his work, Verdoux has been laid-off. To make money for his wife and child, he marries wealthy widows and then murders them. His crime spree eventually works against him when two particular widows break his normal routine.

The film centres on Moncho and his coming-of-age experience in Galicia in 1936. Moncho develops a close relationship with his teacher Don Gregorio who introduces the boy to different things in the world. While the story centres on Moncho's ordinary coming-of-age experiences, tensions related to the looming Spanish Civil War periodically interrupt Moncho's personal growth and daily life.
