A film made for television, based on the book of the same name by Libera Carlier. A Flemish family decides to spend the summer holidays on de Schelde. Father Janssen buys a second-hand boat and together with his wife and two sons he sets sail. What follows is a sequence of pleasant moments and disappointments, watched by the sceptical mother Janssen.

The annual winter fisheries are about to start, but the great catch never seems to come. It turns out that large industrial trawlers have emptied the ocean of fish, and the ordinary little fishing boats will have a hard time surviving. Elias gathers all his friends in order to save the future of his tiny coastal community.

Sensuous and desirable, Carol Forrest has always attracted the attention of men. Expert in the art of manipulation and control she married an older man, loving only his vast wealth and continued to amuse herself with indiscreet affairs. But when neighbour Mark Kendrick lets slip that her husband intends cutting her out of his will Carol concentrates all her attentions on the unsuspecting Kendrick, obtaining his help to dispose of this irritating obstacle.

Tony and Felix own a tramp boat, and sail around the Caribbean doing odd jobs and drinking a lot. They agree to ferry the beautiful but passportless Irena to another island. They both fall for her, leading to betrayal and a break-up of their partnership. Tony takes a job on a cargo ship. After a collision he finds himself trapped below deck with time running out (the ship is aflame), and only Felix, whom he hates and has sworn to kill, left to save him.
