Overview

Comedy drama about a family reunion written by and starring Richard Herring. It's Ken and Margaret Snell's 45th wedding anniversary and their children and grandchildren along gather to celebrate. For Ken and Margaret's children, it's a day to revisit childhood arguments and to paper over present-day fractures in their relationships.

Texan Charles Farmer left the Air Force as a young man to save the family ranch when his dad died. Like most American ranchers, he owes his bank. Unlike most, he's an astrophysicist with a rocket in his barn - one he's built and wants to take into space. It's his dream. The FBI puts him under surveillance when he tries to buy rocket fuel, and the FAA stalls him when he files a flight plan – but Charles is undeterred.

This autobiographical film documents an attempt at healing the trauma of touch between mother and child, as the filmmaker and their mother talk openly for the first time about the intergenerational trauma and abuse within their lives. Present day phone conversations are juxtaposed with archival VHS footage, creating a connection between the past and a re-write for the future.

Big changes are coming to the life of twelve year old Masha after vacations on Kamchatka island. Her father spends most of his time sailing and lives in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, while the girl lives with her mother in Odessa. Masha had long dreamed of traveling to Kamchatka; now, the long-awaited day has arrived. Summer will pass in a flash for both father and daughter: Masha will spend two months with her father on Bering Island, befriend an Aleut boy named Radik, and convince her mother not to return to Odessa at all.
