Wealthy socialite Charlotte Cartwright and her dear friend Alice Pratt, a working class woman of high ideals, have enjoyed a lasting friendship throughout several decades. Yvonne, daughter of Philibert, a Paris cafe owner, is in love with dreamy, blundering Albert, a waiter, though he pays little attention to her. Philibert plans to marry his daughter to a wealthy Parisian, but upon learning that Albert is to come into a large inheritance, he conspires to place him under a longterm contract, confident that he willingly will pay a forfeit to break it.

After receiving an advance inheritance, a bored London couple set off on a world cruise hoping to rejuvenate their marriage and escape their dull routine. But newfound wealth and freedom only expose deeper cracks in their relationship, as each becomes infatuated with someone else. Their journey through exotic ports and mounting disillusionment ultimately brings them face to face with the fragility—and resilience—of love.

A young caterer’s life suddenly changes course when she inherits a country home and learns she must share it with a career obsessed Wall Street trader. At first, these opposites do not attract, but feelings begin to change when they find themselves having to work side-by-side to restore their newly acquired home.
