Overview
Candy is having a bad day. During a morning bike ride, she crosses paths with a truck and the truck wins. Her untimely demise lands her in a strange place... Is it Heaven? Is it Hell? Its neither... Candy finds herself in limbo, forced to take a number to find out if she's going up to the pearly gates or heading down to the depths of hell. Along the way, she has a chance meeting with an ex-boyfriend and they pass the time reminiscing about better days and better lays. She hears many odd stories of how people ended up in this sort of purgatory. And as she finds out, it seems that as on Earth, everyone loves a good sex story!

She is the subject of his life’s greatest regret, and she materializes everywhere in this Otherworld. The writer cannot detach any thoughts of his life from her.

An outlaw band flees a posse and rides into Refuge, a small town where no one carries a gun, drinks, or swears. The town is actually Purgatory, and the peaceful inhabitants are all famous dead outlaws and criminals such as Doc Holiday and Wild Bill Hickok who must redeem themselves before gaining admittance to Heaven... or screw up and go to Hell.

Zia, distraught over breaking up with his girlfriend, decides to end it all. Unfortunately, he discovers that there is no real ending, only a run-down afterlife that is strikingly similar to his old one, just a bit worse. Discovering that his ex-girlfriend has also "offed" herself, he sets out on a road trip to find her.
