Overview
A poor laborer, Zilio, wants to marry Betìa, the daughter of a rich peasant woman. After a number of refusals Zilio is desperate, but his friend Nale plots a sham marriage between the two, convinced he can take advantage of it.

He and Alisande, the King's niece, fall in love at first sight, which draws unwelcome attention from her fiancée Sir Lancelot; but worse trouble befalls when Hank meddles in the kingdom's politics.

Year 1208. The first Eastward enlargement of Europe is under way. Brutal forces of the Teutonic Order are steadily marching on. In their path live a simple and peaceful people, whose main pastimes include cultivating the earth, singing and, if possible, doing both at the same time. They are the Estonians. In the late 80's, a Russian general orders a search party to find a skull with supernatural powers in the Dutch forests which belonged to a Frisian medieval King. The skull is found and a famous archaeologist gets possessed by it and turns into the kings faithful prophet A couple of years later the prophet - who is now leader of a bloodthirsty cult which includes his beautiful girlfriend and family - kills and tortures in the name of the 'Almighty King Sigurd'.
