Overview
After years of abuse by their father, Gregory and his two brothers are placed with their mother. After his mother can't take care of him and his brothers, Gregory is placed at a boys ranch. A lawyer visiting the ranch meets Gregory, and he and his wife decide to adopt him. However, he cannot be adopted until his biological parents lose custody. Based on the true story of the boy who divorced his parents.

Patty Nowakowski already has three children, but decides to be a surrogate mother. Fully confident of being able to give up her baby, she is nonetheless stunned when she discovers that she is expecting twins, and the couple for whom she is pregnant will only accept one child, provided it is female.

Jean-Pierre is a literature professor in Switzerland. Due to the vagarities of Swiss law, he is selected, basically at random, to be the guardian of a parentless teenage boy named Antoine. Conflict comes into the story as Jean-Pierre, who has just accepted a major promotion, must now deal with caring for a teenage boy he doesn't want to care for, as well as handling his own jealous boyfriend. Then his wife steps into the picture. Things get complicated from there as Jean-Pierre tries to get out of his guardianship.
