Overview
Drug-addicted punk musician Tara Herbener met the love of her life in India in 1996. When she overcame her addiction with Buddhism and Zen, she met the Tibetan lama Ngawang Gelek, who was living in exile there. He gave up his monk's vows for her sake and the two became a couple, moving back to Sandra's home country of Germany. Since then, the two very different people have found their modest happiness in an attic apartment in Berlin, in which their 3-year-old daughter Tara has played a not inconsiderable part.

The plot of the film unfolds in the ancient monastery of Dokhiar on the west coast of Mount Athos, on the Aegean peninsula. This peninsula is given to the exclusive use of the monks of Eastern Christianity. Images of nature are woven into a virtually uninterrupted series of work and prayer, lining up in the rhythmic interrelation of man and nature. They made their temporary home inside broken garbage trucks that the Sanitation Department keeps next to the salt deposits used in the winter to melt the snow.
