Overview
Erik Pütz is afraid to make an important confession to his wife Linda: he has been unemployed for two years. What saved him was the regular social welfare check for his former lodger. This gave rise to a bold plan: in addition to his new lodger Harald Klein, Erik invents 35 other needy housemates and collects their checks. Then one day, external inspector Jürgens from the social welfare office knocks on the door...

Two identical twin sisters, separated at birth by their parents' divorce, are reunited years later at a summer camp, where they scheme to bring their parents back together. But the column is a sham, so Elizabeth and her editor, Dudley Beecham, in fear of losing their jobs, hasten to set up the single, childless and entirely nondomestic Elizabeth on a country farm.

Now that Santa and Mrs. Claus have the North Pole running smoothly, the Counsel of Legendary Figures has called an emergency meeting on Christmas Eve! The evil Jack Frost has been making trouble, looking to take over the holiday! So he launches a plan to sabotage the toy factory and compel Scott to invoke the little-known Escape Clause and wish he'd never become Santa.

Publishing assistant Brett Eisenberg wants to be a big-time editor. However, she lacks self-confidence, a problem that isn't helped by her new, overbearing boss. Brett soon enters into a relationship with Archie, an older man who has plenty of his own issues, including alcoholism, diabetes and a difficult relationship with his daughter. Intent on helping Archie get past his problems, she turns to her dying father for advice.

Leopold Bachmayer, a court judge in Vienna, is a grumpy bachelor. Doing foolish things for the sake of a woman could never happen to him. He is firmly convinced of this. This changes abruptly when, shortly before his vacation, he has to interrogate the seductive Frau von Seewald about a brooch allegedly stolen by a maid.
