Naoya and Katsuhiro are boyfriends, new in their relationship. After the death of his wife, retired judge Justin Playfair creates a fantasy world for himself in which he is the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes, even dressing like the character. Out of concern for Justin's money more than his health, his brother Blevins puts him under the care of psychiatrist Dr. Mildred Watson. As Dr. Watson grows fond of Justin, she begins to play along with his theories, eventually becoming an assistant in his investigations.

John Arnold DeMarco is a man who believes he is Don Juan, the greatest lover in the world. Clad in a cape and mask, DeMarco undergoes psychiatric treatment with Dr. Jack Mickler to cure him of his apparent delusion. But the psychiatric sessions have an unexpected effect on the psychiatric staff and, most profoundly, Dr Mickler, who rekindles the romance in his complacent marriage.

However, when Sarah goes into labour, he takes a tumble down the stairs and lands on his head. Awkward teenager Charlie Bartlett has trouble fitting in at a new high school. Charlie needs some friends fast, and decides that the best way to find them is to appoint himself the resident psychiatrist. He becomes one of the most popular guys in school by doling out advice and, occasionally, medication, to the student body.

Anna is a primary school teacher and a nervous wreck. The pupils do whatever they want to her. Thilo is an actor - but mainly on his business card. To earn money, he sells wine in a call center, or rather, he tries to. One day, mutual friends Valerie and Moritz play fate and bring the two together. But this also goes wrong: Anna has a minor nervous breakdown and Thilo - falls in love! Head over heels! But first they have to solve their own problems, face up to their reality and admit that they need to change something in their lives. And gradually Anna and Thilo find their way back to themselves and to each other, because life writes the most beautiful stories with love and music...
