Overview
Painted Skin is based on one of Pu Songling's classic short stories in Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio. Zhou Xun stars as Xiao Wei, a fox spirit that feasts on human hearts in order to maintain her lovely, youthful appearance. When General Wang Sheng (Chen Kun) 'rescues' her from a band of bandits and brings her home, trouble brews as the demon falls in love with the general.

Wang Sheng, a Ming-Dynasty scholar who just failed the Imperial Examination, works together with his fellow villagers through many strange but fantastic approaches to change his hometown’s backwardness and his own fate. He accidentally meets with a Fox Spirit and involves himself in a series of weird adventures, both physically and emotionally, only to completely change his own life.

In 208 A.D., in the final days of the Han Dynasty, shrewd Prime Minster Cao convinced the fickle Emperor Han the only way to unite all of China was to declare war on the kingdoms of Xu in the west and East Wu in the south. Thus began a military campaign of unprecedented scale. Left with no other hope for survival, the kingdoms of Xu and East Wu formed an unlikely alliance.

When a little spider is about to be injured by a child in the lower world she is rescued by the young monk. She follows him home and meditates in the four seasons of spring, summer, autumn and winter. Under the influence of Buddhism, she turned into a human form and was soon discovered by the abbot Huirui. Bunian's lively jumping caused the Sutra Pavilion to be burned accidentally. It was difficult for the temple to influence her, so she and the young monk is asked to take the "Love Sutra" down the mountain to Anyi Villa to find Master Huiming. They set out on a journey to answer the question, “What is love?”

During the warring period of the three kingdoms, ancient China is in turmoil. To unify the country, general Cao Cao, the real power behind the Emperor, enlists the aid of the greatest warrior in the land, Guan Yu. However, Guan Yu is a loyal friend of Cao Cao's enemy Liu Bei so to persuade the peerless warrior to fight, Cao Cao takes his beloved Qi Lan hostage. After leading Cao Cao's forces to victory Guan Yu sets out with Qi Lan to rejoin Liu Bei. Now Cao Cao has deemed him too great a threat to live, and on the journey he must face all the forces at the Emperor's command sent to destroy him.

After losing her family to fox hunters, five-tailed Yobi lives in the forest with some shipwrecked aliens, far away from the humans. When one of her alien friends gets captured by a villager, Yobi has no choice but to adventure into the human world to rescue him. At the village, Yobi meets many humans, including Geum Yee who studies at a school for maladjusted children. Interested in Geum Yee, Yobi joins the students and revels in the fun of human life, but both a fox hunter and a mysterious shadow man are on her trail.

Yang buys a painting of fox fairy. When he faces the painting and calls "Qing Mei", a fox fairy will get out the painting and stay together with Yang. Yang's parents invite a Taoist to catch the fox, but a vampire appears to kill the Taoist's assistant and seduce Yang. The fox fairy fights the vampire to protect Yang.

When she helplessly falls in love with her mortal enemy, the beautiful yet cursed fox spirit known as Snow Lady causes her mother much trepidation. To make matters worse, a ruthless tracker emerges and threatens to alter her fate. Darkly comical and hauntingly stylish, this magical gothic tale from Hong Kong also features performances from Wai Yiu and director Ma Wu.
