For some time now, the residents of the placid little village of Sonnenthal talk only about one topic: Football! The ambitious mayor wants to promote the Sonnenthal team to the district league at any price because this success would also boost his own popularity. But he did not expect the resistance of the new head of school, Barbara, who is heavily annoyed by the one-sided focus. To bring Sonnenthal′s men and the mayor in particular to their senses, Barbara sets up a women′s football team that soon turns out to be a serious competition for the men′s team.

Paris-based wine expert Steven Spurrier heads to California in search of cheap wine that he can use for a blind taste test in the French capital. Stumbling upon the Napa Valley, the stuck-up Englishman is shocked to discover a winery turning out top-notch chardonnay. Determined to make a name for himself, he sets about getting the booze back to Paris.

A dim witted, scrawny fellow from the country finds college full of bullies that trick him into various painful situations with the dean. His wife mistakes him for a prize athlete, and he's put on the football team. The big game includes unusual things like a mud hole on the field and a wasp nest substituting for the ball.

Through several entangled stories, province atmosphere is shown, in which new ideas are hard to penetrate. Parallel with the seventh anniversary of peasant's cooperative farm, activity of a priest, who wants to restore the iconostasis, is followed. Local photographer intrigues - in small town in which the villagers want to become football champions.
