Overview

In the late 1990s, Gavin Bain and Billy Boyd had their musical ambitions consistently ridiculed for having the 'wrong' accents, so they went for broke and reinvented themselves as Californian rappers. The duo re-recorded their own tracks with fake accents and turned up in London claiming to be an established duo on the Cali scene as well as childhood friends with Eminem. They quickly bagged themselves a record deal, a hefty sum in advances, and an appearance on MTV... until it all came crashing down.

The plot opens with the hero (Tsuruta) leaving prison, having served time through taking the blame for a fellow gang member’s crime. However, his former gang boss seems to have gone to seed, with people now killing each other and dealing in drugs. The hero then teams up with a lone operator (Tamba) who specialises in shaking down gangsters.
Flame-out writer Eddy O’Neill battles a looming deadline, a murky criminal conspiracy, and a questionable understanding of the investigatory benefits of alcohol, while tracking a kidnapped lover through the streets of Austin. After an encounter with the enigmatic figure of Daisy Kowalsky leads to witnessing a double murder, his search for a story then spirals into a surreal, deadly game of cat and mouse.
