Overview
Feisty reporter Joan insists on driving to her next assignment in Edinburgh solo. Along the way she has a flat tire and a passerby lends a hand, she in kind offers him a lift. As she finds out more information about him she starts making assumptions and her fears rise.

An inmate tending the prison grounds notices the woman next door neighbor often watches him. He sneaks over to visit and tells her he will be released in two weeks. He says he plans on coming for her to take her away. While she has pleaded with her husband to move away from the prison, he has his reasons for wanting to stay. The prisoner could be the answer to her problem.
In 1887 France, a mother is starting to become worried about her young son. He has a recurring dream in which he looks for his dead father. His mother gets worried even more when he tells her that he has met a wealthy nobleman who wants to take him aboard ship for a trip to the West Indies.
At the beginning of the 20th century, a rich American boy touring Europe with his uncle stops at a trendy German resort and meets a pretty young girl who is there with her mother, a widow. The young couple fall for each other, until the young girl's mother's past begins to have an effect on their relationship.
Young Swedish-American Katrin "Katie" Holstrom leaves her family farm in Minnesota, headed for nursing school. After her tuition money runs out, she is forced to take a job as a maid in the home of Congressman Glenn Morley. Holstrom endears herself to the genteel Morley, and begins to show a surprising aptitude for politics herself. She launches a campaign for Congress, and, as right-wing reactionaries plot against her, a romance develops.
Riley Walker arrives at an Italian villa with an injured hand; he had cut his hand whilst attempting to get into the neighbouring villa belonging to his aunt. He introduces himself to the residents and stays until his aunt, Mrs Panzack, returns. Speaking to his aunt it is revealed that the visit was a ruse to meet the occupants of the house and in particular Maggie Brown, who is in possession of some diamonds they are interested in.
