Recently orphaned, Richard has been sent to live with relatives in the remote US town of Ballantyne. The local police suspect Richard to be responsible, and no one believes his story. No one except Karen, a fellow teenage outsider. Together, Richard and Karen must embark on a quest to solve the mystery and prove his innocence, but soon realise evil forces and black magic are closing in on them.

After World War II, Antonia and her daughter, Danielle, go back to their Dutch hometown, where Antonia's late mother has bestowed a small farm upon her. There, Antonia settles down and joins a tightly-knit but unusual community. Those around her include quirky friend Crooked Finger, would-be suitor Bas and, eventually for Antonia, a granddaughter and great-granddaughter who help create a strong family of empowered women.

As the plague decimates medieval Europe, rumours circulate of a village immune from the plague. There is talk of a necromancer who leads the village and is able to raise the dead. A fearsome knight joined by a cohort of soldiers and a young monk are charged by the church to investigate. Their journey is filled with danger, but it's upon entering the village that their true horror begins.

At the behest of her boss, journalist Ingrid returns to her ancestral home when several children are found slaughtered in nearby woodland. With the village suspecting the infamous Winter Witch, together with daughter Eleanor and estranged grandmother Omi, Ingrid must uncover the truth and stop the curse of Frau Perchta once and for all.
