A young girl buries in her soul a memory of a painful moment, when as a child she brought home an injured bird and her father burdened by his own weight of worries didn’t notice her feelings and longing for understanding. Since that moment she and her dad continued to grow apart, and as an adult she is no longer able to accept his endearments. Two FBI agents investigating the murder of civil rights workers during the 60s seek to breach the conspiracy of silence in a small Southern town where segregation divides black and white. The younger agent trained in FBI school runs up against the small town ways of his partner, a former sheriff.

Damien joins his brother Teddy in the Irish Republican Army, but political events are soon set in motion that tear the brothers apart.

General Idi Amin comes to power and asks Garrigan to become his personal doctor.
